Star Wars Music Activities

R2D2 Singing Round (Grade 2-5)

Piggybacked lyrics to Frere Jacques include: R2D2, C3P0, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Han Solo.

Add movement!
R2D2-turn in small personal circle, C3P0-walk with stiff legs, Obi Wan-use your light saber, Han Solo-arms out and fly. Movement is great in helping kids learn to sing rounds!

Create movement!
Small groups can create a new verse/movements using these other names: Princess Leia, Rey & Finn, Yoda, Chewy, Poe Dameron.

Star Wars Movement Activity: Body Percussion, Form, and Creating (Gr. 3-6)

This activity using Buckethead’s Star Wars rendition is sure to spark your older students’ interests with body percussion movements, some Chewbacca sound effects, and then the chance to create their OWN movements using the piece’s form to help.

Other ideas: Create movement in small groups. The groups of 6 or so take a long piece of fabric and create moves. The fabric should be at least 48″ wide and 8′ long. If you have enough small parachutes, that would work too. I kept 2 groups in the room to work and sent two to the hall. I stood in the doorway so I could watch all at once.

Imperial March Light Saber Rhythms (Gr. 3-5)

This is SO fun because you use rhythm sticks, pool noodles, or blacklight sticks as light sabers to slice the rhythms. I think changing the playback speed to .75 is the way to go. (click cog at bottom of video and then .75)

Darth Vader, Star Wars Theme RAP (Gr. 2-5)

This 7+ minute video has lots going on-movement, imaginative play, note identification, rhythm clapping using quarter notes/rest, paired eighths, half notes.

Lesson Ideas

  • Lesson 1: use all body percussion
  • Lesson 2: divide the class into four groups to represent the body percussion in the second half of the video.
  • Lesson 3: use rhythm sticks as light sabers and to play the rhythms in the second half of the video. Vader-Force-Droid-Rest

Cantina Band Routine w/Movement Props (Gr. K-5)

This flashlight routine is so fun! If you don’t have flashlights, use scarves or ribbon wands. Check out foam (light sabre) sticks!

Star Wars Theme Line Rider & Rhythms

Look at the Star Wars theme notation. You see notes that are short (triplets), some medium (quarters), and some long (half notes).

The notation MATCHES the lines that Bosh, line rider, rides!

Can you find the triplets in the line rider video?
